Lyrics

I come from the Walnut Grove by the Green River Gorge , where the Blue Ridge of Caroline rises to the north
there the winter sun it paints the peticoated clouds , like the skirts of girls dancin reels to the fiddlers in town
and all the colors God has made come pouring radiant through, and fall upon the comin of the night like a TWILIGHT TATTOO

now I don't live for much just my babies and my wife ,I'd fight for this here country if they came threatening our lives
so when I joined up with the local guard to wear the weekend green, I never dreamed that they would send me to some place i'd never seen
now I'm halfway round the world in a God forsaken land, and the fires of Hell they burn upon these timeless desert sands

the children we seen today they had my daughters eyes , the women in the ashes seemed to be my mother and my wife
these men I call my enemy would we be brothers if we could , and put flowers on the bayonet but the gardens filled with blood
I hope the men who put us here will someday taste the truth , when they drag'm down the marble stairs of the Devils Zanadu

I come from the Walnut Grove by the Green River Gorge , where the Blue Ridge of Caroline rises to the north
there the winter sun it paints the peticoated clouds , like the skirts of girls dancin reels to the fiddlers in town
and all the colors God has made come pouring radiant through , and fall upon the coming of the night like a TWILIGHT TATTOO
